BEAVER: Solutions Through Systems Engineering
Air Canada Cargo

Beaver's air cargo "roll boxes" played a key role in a recent re-engineering of Air Canada's state-of-the-art logisics system at Pearson Internaltional Airport in Toronto.

They may look simple, but the precision engineering behind them is unparalleled. Each one is fabricated to within 3mm tolerances. They feature the highest quality casters and push bars, which makes moving them across warehouse floor an easy job. Their wire mesh "barn" doors include lift handles, heavy-duty hinges, internal stop plates, and a top lock bar.

The boxes also feature target and pintels on their posts, which allow them to be stacked 5-high, and forklift tunnels, for easy access with materials handling equipment or stacker cranes.

At Air Canada Cargo, chain conveyors in the computerized stacker crane system deliver the roll boxes between the automated storage and retrieval system and the floor operators.

Each box can hold 750 kg (1,650 lbs.) of cargo. Each one has a primer coat plus three coats of high-visibility paint, Each box comes equipped with a permanent anodized barcode ID tag and a vinyl barcode ID label.

No, all boxes are not created equal.
